What Helped Us Win?
So how did the Americans win the revolution against the British army, when America was barely a country at all? Well there are a couple main reasons why the Americans had advantages and won. First off the Americans had something no opponent had they were fighting for their land, their homes, their families, and most of all their country. Also the British lived on the other side of the ocean this affected how long troops and messages took to reach the colonies. Often messages carried battle plans but since it took months to reach its destination plans had often changed by then. Americans also fought in a new tactic a “cowardly” sort of tactic according to the British that was considered dirty fighting. This was called Guerrilla fighting style. “Guerrilla warfare is a form of irregular warfare in which a small group of combatants such as armed civilians use military tactics including ambushes, sabotage, raids, petty warfare, the element of surprise, and extraordinary mobility to dominate a larger and less-mobile traditional army.” But most important of them all Britain had gone to war with other countries, who had lost of course because of Britain’s supreme power at the time. Many countries had seen Britain’s weakness and wanted revenge and allied with the Americans. These countries were the French, Spanish, and the Dutch.
